Skanlore uses your device camera solely for real-time object recognition during vocabulary quests. When you scan an object, the camera frame is sent to our evaluation service and forwarded to our AI provider (Anthropic) for real-time processing, then discarded immediately after the verdict is returned. This happens the same way on both iOS and Android. Camera frames are processed in-memory only: they are never written to your device's photo library, never stored on our servers, and never shared with advertisers or used for any purpose other than returning your scan result. See "How AI Is Used" below for details on what is sent.
We do not collect, infer, or store: precise location, device contacts, photos library, microphone audio, advertising identifiers, or any third-party tracking signal.
Skanlore is designed for children aged 5–12 used under parental supervision. Before any child profile can be created, the parent must complete a verified consent flow that confirms their age and authority to consent on the child's behalf. This complies with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (16 CFR Part 312) and Article 8 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the educational features of the app and nothing else.
Skanlore uses Anthropic's Claude AI to evaluate scanned objects against vocabulary properties and generate quest content. When a scan is performed, the detected object label, the vocabulary words being evaluated, the child's age band, and the camera frame (on both iOS and Android) are sent to our evaluation service, which forwards them to Anthropic. The child's name and parent email are never sent to the AI service. Anthropic does not train its models on Skanlore user data.
Parents may request deletion of all account data at any time from inside the app: Parent Dashboard → Word Tome → enter Parent PIN → Request Account Deletion. After confirmation, all child profiles, quest progress, scanned word history, and the parent account itself are permanently deleted within 30 days. Crash logs, which contain only a pseudonymous account identifier and never your name or email, may persist with our crash-reporting provider for up to 90 days, after which they can no longer be associated with a deleted account.
Email-based deletion requests can also be sent to the address below.
anthropic.com/privacyNo data is shared with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
From the verdict screen at the end of any scan, a parent or child can tap "Report" to flag a verdict that seems inappropriate, factually wrong, or off-topic for the child's age. Reports are reviewed by us and used only to improve quest quality.
If we materially change how we collect or use data, we will publish a new version of this policy and the in-app consent flow will require parents to review the changes before continuing.
